One year on and I am back ! I am running the race for life again this year so again I am asking for your help!
I really enjoyed running the race last year and finished in 35 minutes, which, I am sure, for you hardened P.E types is rubbish, however for those who know me and my love for sitting on my bum, watching T.V. and eating cakes, can appreciate that this is a massive feat!
I felt a real sense of achievement and it's amazing to feel like you can help in some small way although it was a really emotional day. The sheer amount of people affected by this evil disease is astounding. Many women were running for people who had already passed away and many for those still fighting, I am glad to say that my mum is still fighting!
My mum Linda was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in March 2006. She has fought the disease for the last 3 years. No mean feat, as she was also told that the disease couldn't be cured, only managed. This sort of news completely changes your perspective. Imagine being told that you can't assume anything about your future?
She has undergone some of the most gruelling treatment, ending up in hospital several times, more so from the treatment than the cancer. There have been several dark times for my Mum when she has considered giving up the treatment. She once told me that she she thought she was a coward and couldn't go through with it. After seeing what she has already gone through I think she is the bravest person I know.
This year I am not only running this race for my Mum, but for my Dad, my family and all the people who love and have cared for her these past 3 years. My Mum is a Gran now with the addition of my Nephew, Frankie, so I am also running this race for him 'cos he really needs his granny.
So please, please help! I know there's a recession on but if everyone I know is happy to donate one pound it all helps.
Just remember that life is short, live it as best you can and always tell the important people in your life that you love them.
Here's the technical bit!!
